Proving Our Love

Before I was married and before I was a Christian a young woman that I had dated just 2 or 3 times told me that she loved me. She did not know me. She may have loved the young man she thought I was, but she apparently loved a person that did not exist. When she learned who I really was we both knew that she did not love me. I wonder if she ever found the man that she thought I was.

She said something else. She said that she should not have to prove her love. I had not suggested that she do that. I wonder if she was an unbeliever telling the man she thought I was that she wanted to marry him or if she was a Christian trying to tell him that she was going to abide by God*s plan for single individuals and married couples.

Love should automatically prove itself. Single men and women should prove their love for one another by not having sex until after they are married. Single men and women who have sex before they are married prove something else. They prove that they have sexual desire (lust) and they prove that they do not love one another the way God wants them to. They prove erotic love but not agape love. It is a shame that the English language only has one word, love, to speak of two kinds of love that are so different. Erotic love is selfish and agape love us unselfish. I wonder if Satan had a part in creating the English language.

1 Corinthians 14:33: For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

John 14:15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Individuals who love the Lord Jesus should prove their love for Him by keeping His commandments. The Lord Jesus properly wants us to love Him and PROVE IT! Sometimes the better we know people, the harder it is to love them. But God will help us with that.

Romans 5:5b: . . . the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

The better we know the Lord, the easier it is to love Him and the easier it is to prove it. The more Godly (the more like Him) people are, the easier it is to love them. And the more Godly we are, the easier it is for others to love us. Loving others causes them to love us. In our relationship with God He is the source of the love. In their relationships with others, Christians should be the first to love and the first to prove it.

1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.
